Time and Distance

...And though she thinks she's too far north—
I wonder, could I reach her there.
Where she yet draws the passions forth
To rekindle a love once shared
A time ago, when we were young,
And maybe more wild than free.
That wish unto the stars we flung
The one night Fate gave her to me.

Time and distance laying to waste
A dream found too hard to embrace.
In darkness my fingers still traced,
Each night, the memory of her face.
The years took us our separate ways,
Still now and then I’d think of her.
Caught in a vast river of days
Where all once knew became a blur.

That door now shut, I have to knock;
Knowing nothing might be the same.
I fear the handle to be locked,
With only myself here to blame.
Still if I could just hear that voice
Once more, this restless heart might still.
So ‘must ask, as if I have choice,
If it’s something I ever will?

Time and distance could be a blessing, Michael. Never know if you are on the up and up with your poems, or just making it up as you go along.

Jer, while the world of poetry allows me the gift of an empty canvas to paint upon, I still have to "feel" it to paint it.  The realm of poetry does not hold to the same bounds and restrictions that reality unfortunately presents.

Tanya, you honor me with your presence, and with your pen.  Always more, indeed.
