Friends

So who would call me friend today,
Moved by the pain left on display?
So many turn their eyes on me.
Yet in the end, most let me be.

You call me friend to inspire change.
I call you friend from realms estranged.
And yet at times you still persist
To push for what cannot exist.

Even so I accept you, brother.
Though I am unlike any other
I’ve come across these 40 years
Of pain—of woe—of blood—of tears.

The darkness in me without end
So dark, you think I must pretend.
I cherish your enlightened view,
Still can’t roll with what works for you.

So, in spite of all you might think,
‘But pure emotion spills my ink.
And for all who I would call friend,
I’ll still stand alone to the end.

Yep. We ALL must stand alone in the end, Michael, No matte how many friends we accumulate o'er our lifetime, at the end, we stand and face it quite alone.

stand alone, maaaybe...but with many at your back me thinks.

this just rings of stoic male Michael, maybe a bit of stubborn too? enjoyed the adamant stand-still here! I wouldn't budge from my accumulated scraps of knowledge either (thirty-wha?! lol)

I wouldn't want to be rid of you Ruth.  In fact, you need to call or text me pls... my phone got wet and Though I though I had all my contacts saved to my sim card, apparantly I was mistaken... lost everything.  :/

Jer, The end may suck, but I do look forward to what comes after.

Tanya, ah, now you're just playin' nasty.  First you try to flip the stubborn thing back on me, then you go and rub in how old I am to boot.  Keep this up and you're gonna end up on my list!

Thank you all for the kind replies.

Michael, I think you have a lot more staunch friends than you think!

Tanya, I hear you... We have always had that near psychic link in understanding each other.  Something I maybe took for granted while we were young.  It seems more and more like something to be cherished.

Diana, indeed.  I have always received much more support than I could ever be worthy of.  I give you, and all my friends, a thank you from the bottom of my heart.
