Kate

I looked upon your tiny face
Gave my heart into your keeping
Two years without you, I’m displaced,
Still aching, missing and still weeping

When life had threatened to destroy
Strength and ability to cope
You and your siblings gave me joy
You returned laughter, restored hope

You woke up happy every day,
Your “wake up, Mom!’ mew full of cheer
I still get up, somehow, someway
But dawns are bleak without you here

Your brother and I carry on
Sometimes it feels you never left
But empty arms prove you are gone
With you in heaven, we’re bereft

I was the first sight your eyes saw
And the last at your life’s end
Love packaged in fur, without flaw
You were my princess, daughter, friend

Though fate’s declared we be apart
Such bond can’t be destroyed by death
You’ll live forever in my heart,
Be on my mind till my last breath

I looked upon your tiny face
Gave my heart into your keeping
Two years without you, I’m displaced,
Still aching, missing and still weeping

Kate
Beloved by Mom and Colin and all who knew her
7/8/2006 - 4/19/2013

Pictures: top - Kate and Colin as babies, center - Kate and Colin on "their" balcony, bottom - Kate

without words for you, pen was stilled
I love you, sweet Kate - always will

I can relate strongly to this. Very strongly.

When I saw the title of this, even before I saw the poet, I KNEW it was about the darling Kate I loved/love so much from so far away and I was already sobbing by the time I saw the poet's name.  Read the poem once through a waterfall of tears.  Will come back to it another day, when I am prepared for it better.  Love you Kate - and Colin and Dixie and Ruth.

ethome: you don't know how much your response means to me! I know I could never do justice to that sweet being and the love she gave so generously - but I didn't want my words to be completely unworthy. Thank you!

Have said many times "...not a cat lover", but that doesn't mean I don't appreciate the closeness others have with the breed.  And the pain of their loss.  Love and pain are, love and pain, no matter the source, the object, or whose. And I love the way you wrote about yours.

Heart for you, my friend...

Alison: My heart melts every time I see those faces. Thank you so much for the second look!

Jimmy: Being a complete softie for animals, I've always believed those who aren't cat lovers just haven't met the right cat. LOL But you're right... love and pain are what they are, regardless of circumstances. Thank you for your understanding and caring!

I bolstered up the courage to come in here again to take in the poem properly.  Still had to read it through a waterfall of tears, but this time I was prepared.  Your beautiful poem to Kate is perfect, and Kate hears you read it to her, though in a broken voice, and she loves you and the poem, and Colin and Dixie as always, all the way from Heaven as she watches over you all.

Owl: I hate the thought of hurting your tender heart and causing you tears - but I so appreciate you coming back. You knew Kate through my love for her and I'm glad you think this does justice to my sweet girl. Thank you - from her mom, her precious brother - and the tiny tornado who isn't a replacement for the irreplaceable, but found her own place in our hearts.

So sorry for the loss of your precious Kate.  Our Needful is 16 years old and I know will pass soon.  I'm glad you could write so poignantly of your love and loss.  I've found that it helps. Hugs!

I know why you still weep, all too well, as I've buried a cat or two the past few years.
Over the rainbow bridge is where you will find her and meet up again, is the only solace I myself can embrace in the continued pain of loving and losing one of the Creator's tiny treasures

Thank you, Ruth, Kate's mom, Kate's brother and the tiny tornado.  The tears are so anguished because the love is so great - and the blessing of loving Kate is so very, very worth every one of those tears.

Martie: We never have long enough, no matter how long we have such incredible love blessing our lives. Thank you!

EmmaRose: I yearn for that meeting - and count on it! Thank you very much!

Owl: Garth Brooks' song "The Dance" says "I could have missed the pain, but I'd have had to miss the dance". The pain of missing my sweet princess is hard - but it's also a reminder of how richly my life was blessed when Kate and Colin came into it. I hug him and give thanks for every minute... even when my tears dampen his fur. *S* Thank you!

luminosity: Hugs are always appreciated - especially yours! Thank you, dear O&O!!!
