Lullaby

There is a voice that sings to me,
So quiet in the night.
When all is dead, except the dread
That creeps by the starlight.
A haunting song, ever in long
It calls me to the blight;
To melt in seas of her disease,
Until the morning light.

I wrap myself in the discord,
Then kiss her poison lips;
To bleed the need of polished deed
With calloused fingertips.
I know this pain, share the refrain
With all till they can’t stand…
Till ev’ry word passes unheard,
Along the dying strand.

And it’s there I find my reward
Sleeping, ever awake.
Beyond the reach Hope might beseech
Of angels on the take.
Beyond the sight, and hands of sleight
Awarded ‘me through trust.
Longing to drown in the renown
Of all I’ve watched turn ‘dust.

The morning sun I’ll never see,
A wish ever in flight.
I search the land, a soul been damned
To the eternal night.
The wretched day ne’er to allay
This weight strapped to my back,
I turn and fade, the price ‘been paid
Watching the world turn black.

Silly me Michael, I thought you were really going to write a sweet poem about a gentle lullaby. Guess I forgot who you were there for a moment. Though I know you can write in the light if you choose to. Your poetry is so complex it blows my mind! You are the sorcerer of your style!  ~L

Hi Alison, yeah, dark has always been my forte'.  Not a lot of people understand that I have to write out the darkness within me, lest I just crumble from the inside.  Way too much practice I suppose.

lol Jer, I wrote a nice "dawn" poem in the morning... a lullaby before bed just seemed appropriate.

Lori, haha... got ya!  I had originally titled this piece "lullabye" to signify a permanent closing of the eyes, but then you might not have come in to read it.

Vincent, I know exactly what you mean... have to bleed it out.

Ida, thank you.  Glad you stopped in to read me.

dittos Michael!
This night is every night...
but when would we write without darkness?
Be well
