That gypsy looked well at the branches and leaves
intertwined like her words round the stake of today
and she wondered how they ever could breathe
when trapped and confined by nature’s decree.

Indeed she could prune and cut some of them loose
then let them lie fallow in the dirt of the world.
or she could ignore, let them suffocate,
and tune out from the cries of suffering.

What to do, what to do?  She’s a gypsy unsure
but perhaps tomorrow or the day after that
there’ll be signs and symbols and a little insight
to make her decide to do this or that.

Then perhaps tomorrow or the day after that
action will reign supreme for a day
and whatever must be will indeed be done
and she can happily move on again.

But for now, for now, this earthly now
that gypsy looks well at the branches and leaves!

The gypsy has a decision to make, but she is confused and doesn't want to make the wrong one. She can wait until she sees a sign that tells her what to do. She can wait, years pile upon years, until she is a very old gypsy and she keeps waiting for a sign, but by now she doesn't remember why she needed that sign.

That pause before action as if we had a choice, all things will go as is
I enjoyed the dance of the gypsy here

Thanks, Jerry, and yes, that's pretty much how it goes.

Enjoyed, not that you have these decisions but because you have written my life. Still I procrastinate as life goes on. Some decisions  are too important to make wrong moves.Take care. Jo

So much depth on many levels.   Wondering about the action of pruning or waiting it out...I really enjoyed reading and reflecting on your well written poem.

What a joy to find a post from someone I know. And what a post it is! I cannot tell you how long and hard I looked for a post from anyone except for the five or so names that repeat over and over and over! Have the rules changed? How is it that a few people take over the entire board until there is almost nothing but their posts as far as the eye can see? As much as I love your work, it is almost nowhere to be found amongst the sea of posts from so very few writers. I despair that anything I write would find the eyes of anyone I know. What a world, what a world!

The reason the same people are posting, JLHunter, is not because they are "taking over," it is because they are the only ones who are posting. No one is trying to take over anything here, we just post, the ones you are looking for do not post often if at all.

Hi JL.  Thank you for bringing this one up.  I guess life has taken over many of the old poets or perhaps we have become a bit "dispirited".  There was a time when I looked at everything and then wrote about it but now have slipped back into the old way of being.  I should snap out of it because there's still so much more to "see" and so ... maybe tomorrow or the day after that.  The odd write these days goes onto my blog, dreamtimepoetry.com.

Jerry is right.  Without the regulars there would be very little to read.  I do stop by frequently for a quick read so your words will be seen by at least one of the oldies.

I trust you are well.

JL, Jerry is correct not too many of us write.I never thought I was a poet so am careful of what I put out there. And many we knew have passed on. I miss them very much and feel not too many left who know me. Jo
