Fair to middlin' of nowhere

0 posted 2015-02-16 11:32 AM

Monday morning finds me
tired and uninspired,
fighting the desire
to play hooky
and take a sick day.
Things are slow
at the office,
everything has been
typed and filed away
without a mistake.
With eyelids of lead
and a brain that’s dead,
I struggle to stay awake.
It is a losing battle.
I hope no one tattles
I think to myself
as my neck turns to rubber
and my head starts to bob.
I just pray I don’t start
to snore or slobber.
More coffee!
That would be good for me!
I have to get up
and walk to the bathroom.
(that’s what coffee does to me)
Even writing this
hasn’t kept my eyes open
like I was hopin’.
About the time
I start thinking
about my next line.
My eyelids start slowly
blinking and sinking
as I get lost in thought.
A Five Hour Energy is
what I should have bought.
This damnable drowsy
is a curse.
I swear the clock
is going in reverse.

Boy! Talk about been there, done that, but Retirement (long as you don't consider how poor it made me) is wonderful - especially in that respect (your poem).  Seems I don't suffer those spells much anymore though - hmm, maybe it's just being at work that hits us, like, maybe we just have an "aversion" to it???

nice piece...

Thanks Jimmy,
I love my job and when I'm busy, I'm swamped. It is either feast or famine here for me. I'd rather be really busy all day than have to fight this down time.  I'd never make it as a security guard.

No, I tutor a student on Mon, Tue, Thurs. I'm thinking about Wednesday though. I have a Dr. appointment at 10:00. ~L
