I once stood in the pull of the street life,
Like on the deck of a ship in a storm.
In my pocket was a very sharp knife,
It was there not to draw blood, but to warn.

Untamed nights, pitch dark, with a neon slash,
Street people, eyes wary of each other,
Some fade into shadows, the rest are brash,
And there is no such thing as blood brothers.

This patch of earth is mean more than hostile,
Beaten down by the street anger is there,
To survive you must have cunning and guile,
Even so you need luck and maybe prayer.

Walk the walk, talk the talk, be cagey friend,
That's the sure way you'll be able to blend.

Oh my, Jo. That was one of the BEST movies I have ever seen. As you know, I like writing and seeing the gritty kind of life for the most part. Yes, I have seen that movie often, and now I have to see if I can find it and watch it again.
