the rain spoke to me
as it beat down upon the roof
you need love it said
causing a smile to grace my face
as the rain was quite insistent
I asked myself
who would I see
if a mirror I looked into
would I see who I recollected I was
somehow I surely doubt that
the rain has convinced me otherwise
I would see . . .

I've lived a few lifetimes
in this shell of a body I have hung onto
the rain
is violently beating against the roof
(or my thoughts)
causing my imagination
to soar
believing love has truly come to me
ah love, love me
if you will
embrace me as dedicated as the rain
oh let your love
surround me with rain-like caresses
make me forget
the weary, the meaningless
voices repeating all the tired old cliques
love me differently
and like the rain; be wet
for me
