Tree Rings

I too admire tree rings
Those wrinkles in density
Tell stories of droughts and growth
Though, you can't really see them
Until a tree is cut down

I suppose we could wait for the tree to die of old age, but we're too impatient for that. nice work.

And I am Oak,
my rings are hair turned white,
spare flesh around the middle,
the extra hang of fold
in spreading branches
that hold family together.
leaves that fall as promised dreams.
Like all of life’s best laid schemes,
branches spread and old limbs creak
living is not for the weak.

Nice piece, my friend ... much enjoyed the read.

We cut down a Pine Tree a while back - hated to do it too, but, alas it was time, safety wise --- Awesome tree - it had 86 rings at the cut 3 feet above the ground, and 2 branches 30 or 40 feet up that were a good 14 or more inches in diameter.

again, enjoyed the piece...

Intense, dear Juju. Indeed those tree rings are like an exposed heart that does not beat anymore. Yet it calls for a caress.

Beautiful in its melancholy.

Love,

How true. Death has nothing, if not a tale to tell.
