Take Me Home

Crazed by the beer,
not to mention the Jack Daniels,
I see you as beautiful
on the bar stool beside me.

I see you as all the wondrous things
I’ve ever imagined a woman could be,
and I want you desperately – and worse,
I need you beyond your wildest dreams.

Another beer,
another JD,
and I’m insanely in love
with the way your mascara
has smudged your cheek,
the taste of your lipstick,
your perfume – god, your perfume . . .

Another beer,
to hell with the Jack,
take me home,
just take me home . . .

so we can consummate
our anniversary.

Took my wife (Terry) to New Braunfels, Texas, couple of days ago, were we celebrated our 40th anniversary yesterday in the wonderful, historic little town of Gruene(Green)Texas, about 4 hours from home.  We had dinner at the Gristmill Restaurant, which has become kind of a special place for us over the years and has fabulous food and awesome atmosphere (gristmillrestaurant.com) if interested. Anyway, I've given the piece above to her on our anniversary for many years. Shall we say her reaction is "always . . . interesting" -

Merry Christmas All . . .

Jimmy

Sensitive poetry on the anniversary, no matter what she says.

Happy Anniversary, dear Jimmy! I am happy for you that it was adequately celebrated by you.

Lovely piece for the event and I bet your wife enjoys it greatly.

Jimmy, if your wife's response to this poem is "interesting" then I guess this is a "very interesting" poem to begin with. How well you convey both the 40 years of forever together and the fresh ache of new passion. Masterfully done!
