no, not that kind of going down perverts
I don't recall
that moment in time
I made it to the pinnacle
but somewhere along the line
I started going down
no matter I can't remember
hitting the peak of my existence
I was too busy
doing things my way
think I first became aware
that things were changing
for the worst
I noticed things began
to falter somewhat
the downward spiral
was kicking my ass every day
until I'm where I am today
hooked up to an oxygen apparatus
yeah . . . never thought
this sad day would come
you might think I'm feeling sorry for myself
you'd be wrong
never thought I'd live to hit forty
everything else is lagniappe
I also understand something else
unless a stroke
lays me low
a heart attack out and out kills me
being hooked up to the
oxygen apparatus
is probably as far as I will allow
myself to go
to keep me going
there will be a time I will utilize
my own escape

This one hurts, dear Jerry. I do hope that the oxygen is only a temporary necessity. I wish you that your health may improve, so that you will still enjoy your life.

Every day is a gift anyway. We know that the time comes when there is this "Going Down" and I think we all fear that. But the greatest fear is that we might not be self-sufficient anymore. In this perspective I understand your sad thoughts, but let us not hurry ahead.

Your pen trembled here and that's what made this piece so intense and filled with suspense. Trust the enormous power of your body to recover. Do not give in.

May you quickly recover!

Margherita, thank you so much for you kindness. As for my health improving, I'm afraid it will not. I have emphysema plus a couple of more heavy duty ills that could lay me low. But I didn't mean for the poem to give the impression I was sad or even unhappy. I have the piece these day I have never had before.

It is so good that you have reached this inner peace, dear Jerry. I didn't perceive desperate sadness in your words actually, but of course it is never easy to cope with illness. And it does hurt when we realize that we are somehow "out of balance" physically.

Be well!

Jerry I understand. As we age, these thoughts do  come to the fore. It is just the wondering of how and when. I just hope it is while I sleep  that is the best way to be on our way to a new experience. best to you, jo

Thanks Jo, we never really know of course unless we take matters into our own hands.

Hi Jerry.  This is indeed a sad slice of reality.  May peace be the overriding emotion at this time but as for taking things into our own hands perhaps we could take things into our own minds?  Maybe we can decide that way - I don't really know but maybe we could think it and so it is?  Anyway, let's not go there.

Life may not be as it once was but it is life and for that there's always gratitude.  My best to you over this festive season and for the coming year.

Thank you Helen. I am actually doing quite well thanks to the miracle drugs I take. Appreciate your concern, I really do.

No idea what you meant by that first line, Jerry. But your prolific and profound poetry has a more personal touch having read this. A big, manly hug from a small bird.

First line Redstart, you've never heard the phrase she/he went down on me? A nicer way than saying she she/she sucked my . . .

Thanks for that manly hug, I accept and give you one back. Thank you.
