I see her
she is looking at me
I sense fear
her eyes quickly shift away from me
though I'm harmless
she has every right to be cautious
she felt something
in how I looked at her
and understood that men
some men
are a danger to her
how to tell that beforehand
her defense
not getting involved
with a stranger's unplanned peek
at her
but then she was looking before I did
she again sought out my eyes
her eyes were pleading with mine
they asked
was I a nice guy
or was I of the wicked sort
with a tentative smile on both our faces
we began to walk
in the direction of each other

Very nice!
It reminds me of my student years
I think I acted in the same way.

Good material Jerry.
I know it's a fact and you can't blame the cautious approach on anything but the times we live in.
Nice end result in this. There's always some hope out there for lonely love seekers.

I'm gonna be honest,Jerry. Why should you assume that looking into a woman's eyes might be fearful?

Eyes no doubt have their own silent language and communicate very powerfully. I love how you developed this dialogue and how you detected and described her caution.

Nice conclusion too.

Redstart, you asked me, "Why should you assume that looking into a woman's eyes might be fearful?"
Not once did I ever say that looking into her eyes was fearful, I said I sensed fear from her toward me. Really. Read the poem.
