Currently she's scared of herself. All she knows is the pressure of sadness banging against her skull. Maybe if it were to escape, her clarity would be less clouded. She's trapped inside her body with no way to get out. Stuck underneath skin that isn't hers. Peering out of eyes that she feels don't belong. She is unsure of how to save herself so she goes numb. Hopelessness leaves her stomach in knots. Emptiness engulfs her and leaves her with nothing but a sour taste in her mouth. She's trying her hardest to find an escape. So she'll prance freely through meadows hoping to find a piece of herself that actually belongs. Furiously searching for something that isn't there. She understands she won't find her answers here but a least it's a distraction.

We learn to distract but how is that going to help when we need to find our answers?

AllAnAllusion,

This reads more like prose than poetry. I see that you are fairly new...if you look on the main page you'll see Poetry in Prose...this might fair a little better there.

My mother had to be in an iron lung in her youth. This poem reminds me of her stories. Thank you for sharing!

She had nothing to say
She had nothing to say
"Well, that's a start," she thought to herself
And she picked up her pen and the small notepad
And she laid down on her bed
Paralyzed, she held the pen
Oh, maybe eight millimeters from the page
For at least a half an hour
And then she thought to herself,
"Oh, who am I kidding?
I know I have nothing to say."
She wanted to throw the pen away
No, she wanted to take a hammer
Pound the pen into her skull
Blood gushes out like Old Faithful
World engulfed in a red sea
The final flood
No, screw the pen
Keep the hammer
Get a chisel
Sculpt away at the skull
Reveal the ivory woman in agony
Hidden within
"No, screw those ideas," she said
"I'm just gonna write," she said
"I don't care if I got nothing to say
I'm just gonna scribble away
Until I find something"
Yeah, but she's crossing out every other word
She knows she's not fooling anybody
She knows she has nothing to say
Just like me
