had some time to kill today
spent part of it having lunch out
unheard of for me these days
sitting in a corner table of a busy café alone
crowded and noisy
I’d brought a newspaper with me
it lies in front of me unopened
for I sit and contemplate how I’ve lived my life
not a lot of joy
except for the wanderlust kind
still . . . joy is as joy does I suppose
I remember youthful strength
the power in my arms
my better-than-average looks
man, it seems like yesterday
such a fleeting time
I know the years
have left their message
in my face and my strength
I am aware of it
I can see it
I ponder my lack of prudence
deceived me
always thinking
live for the moment
I had gigantic impulses
tried to cradle the world in my arms
one sweet woman at a time
ahhh . . .
but I forgot the important things
really? more important things?
like love?
oh, I fell in love at the drop of a hat
but it was never real love
I only found real love
in these my last years
no, I’m not complaining
at least now I know what love is
of that
I am grateful
I sit there a few more minutes
sip my cold coffee
get up and walk out the door
write this poem

It is a form of art to be able to start contemplation surrounded by a busy ambiance. You succeeded, dear Jerry, to listen to your inner voice and the results are great. Gratitude elevates us.

I really appreciated your insightful poem.

You're right about the busy ambiance, Margherita. But I always carry a little notebook and pen in my shirt pocket. As I was sipping on the coffee I made notes and when I got home I put everything together. Thank you for being here today.

Enjoyed your poem of contemplation! I'm not surprised you found a way to to bring order to your mind in the midst of chaos.

Hi Lori, yeah you would know, wouldn't you? I enjoyed my little excursion yesterday. Checked out a cafe I'd never been in before.
