Anniversary

We married on this day
in nineteen forty eight.
Now I am left alone
to celebrate.
So many years ago,
and yet just yesterday.
The end came much too soon,
To say goodbye.
Now that we are apart.
It matters not;
He is still lingering
within my heart.

Very sad that his life was cut short way too soon I'm sorry to say, Jo. Yes, you and your memories have captured the day in snapshot accuracy and I know that if it is at all possible he is looking and you with his own memories.

Thank you Jerry and Bluesy. Yes we had a beautiful ride until the roller coaster collapsed in the form of cancer. Thanks for caring. Jo

Cancer is devastating. My heart goes out to you. I'm glad you had the kind of marriage that lasted until death do you part, that is a precious thing.

hilatearrival, o can't believe it, a french poet write the same celebration today but in 1946, it is so strange that inspiration of this unique day crossed the ocean only once in years, this is also a marvellous poem,

Dear Martyjo, it is truly wonderful that you celebrate within your heart that magical day in the past, even though the premature death caused you deep pain. Your gratitude for what was is heart touching.

Beautiful words!

Hugs.

I remember my grandmother (died in 1980) when my grandfather died, and the years she spent with him in every breath she took, and the far away look she'd get when the emptiness was almost to much.

I can only imagine how the two you of you must feel with that loss in common, day after day.

My heart, my soul, Jo . . . are ever open to you.

Jimmy, you are a dear person. I was okay with it as we lived with the fight for five full years and as it progressed and each new tumor appeared and was treated and taken out it was harder and harder to watch him suffer.Bud never complained but he felt it.  So near the end I told him it was okay to give in and leave as I did not want him to continue to suffer. He was trying to hold on until our daughter's wedding in August ,but he left us in March. There were many tears at her wedding openly shed for him. The song she choose for her older brother and she to have the first dance was Some Where Out There. Which of course had us all crying, so her wedding was a mixture of happy and sad tears.
She had put on her wedding dress for her Dad to see and shared some time with him a few weeks before the wedding. Best to you,Jo
