the door stays closed
it mattered not
for I knew what was behind it
the door keeps
people from entering
the Closed Door of Sad Endings
but the demons behind that door
are allowed to leave
in order for them to infiltrate the thoughts of
the ones who conjured them up
made them what they were
demons behind the
Closed Door of Sad Endings
these little but barbaric demons
slip into thoughts
of those who made them
who they are
these men and women
are thusly
maddened to relive
things in their past they try to forget
but the little demons
are there
making sure
they will never forget their nasty past
to some people this constant
replaying all the hurtful things
they have committed
it can lead some to insane asylums
and others to suicide
you see them everywhere
though you can never tell by looking
still . . . the quiet man with his wife and kids
sitting at a restaurant table
having dinner, chatting amicably
near you
could be silently thinking about
and wondering
how many people he could kill
if he pulled the weapon
in his powder blue suit coat pocket
you never know
how the demons have harassed this man
to the point of insanity
until he decides to show you
such is the work
of the little demons
behind the Closed Door of Sad Endings

This is very impressive, dear Jerry, and it shows how past events haunt us throughout life no doubt. The lesson of letting go our past is a tough lesson, it takes much love towards ourselves. You have the words that you share and that is one of the most effective ways to not be bothered endlessly by those little demons. You acknowledge them and by writing about them you release them ...

Thought provoking in its in-depth reflections, dear Jerry. Very well done!

I appreciate your thoughts on my poem, Margherita, and yes indeed acknowledging the worrisome pasts' effect on you and writing about them surely does help thwart their effectiveness. Thank you.

I've been struggling as well with demons, varied as they are from your own. But you know what? Live and let lift! That's what I say!

So good to be reading you again, Jerry.

It is good to be reading you and also reading your comments on my efforts. Thank you for that.

Hello Jerry: yes, bringing the dark side into the light by sharing it with others through the medium of poetry can certainly dilute and dissipate their presence and power.
Which you've effectively done!

Wow. I have a few of them doors around here, Jer... and what comes at me from them, though I try to pretend they can't have me, never cease in their effort.  It's Christmas , look to the open doors around you, the once that are shut have been shut for a reason.  If nothing else, they will still be there afterward.  Wishing you peace, my friend.

Although we are one of billions on this world, we are all essentially alone. Memory is a knife cloaked in velvet, and too often the blade cuts through. The demons or the knife: control is the only answer. This certainly is an impressive write.
