Them coon hunters
are crazy
as they can be.
It can be twenty below freezin’
they’ll still go out  first night of season
chasing raccoons up a tree.
They got to have a hound
of their preferred breed.
One that’ll get the job done
And get that ole’ coon treed.
And their dog’s got to have a voice
to let them know when they’ve made their choice
of which tree them ‘coons are hiding in.
When the hounds are at the tree
they raise quite a din.
They are waiting for their master to come in
and shoot that raccoon down.
You know they want to tussle when it hits the ground.
The raccoons are fierce fighters that can drown
a hapless dog in the water.
I think the raccoon had aughter’
if he wants to get away
to live another day.
Them coon hunters are an odd sort
and coon hunting is an odd sport.
They go out at night till a quarter till dawn
They run them coon ‘till the coon’s all gone.
They run through the woods  trippin’ on trees
Bustin’ their butts and bruising their knees.
Freezing their assets pretty as you please.

Eh . . . I'll pass of the coon hunting, but then I'll pass on most any kind of hunting. I'm not against hunting, it just isn't for me.

If they give you ruled paper write sideways.

Thanks Yann,
I was presented with a challenge by my husband this morning to write about thinking he was crazy for going out when it was so cold opening night.

Nice write, Lori.
I can almost hear the bluetick baying in the chase.

Very nice!

We had a bluetick for a while and she was loud! My husband is a Treeing Walker man. They look like long legged beagles.

I nave raccoons in my yard at night. I'm sure people would be surprised at how much wildlife we have around here. I don't care much for hunting.

Ida,
I'm not personally into hunting but I get it about keeping populations down so they don't starve or become pests roaming out of their habitat.
