that one said she gave
her heart to me
there were others
wanting, demanding to give
their hearts away
one whispered one dark exciting night
I love you
and left me the next day
I finally found one to love
one so fair
but she n'er came round again
ahhh . . . I still like to count them
the one who gave her heart to me
all of them
give me heartbreak whenever
I imagine their faces
oh, they are like the autumn wind
fallen from the tree
to lay there ancient history
and covered by winter's first snow

Gorgeous, dear Jerry! Our encounters with love and heart bliss and pain keep us always upon the edge of reality and dream zones, where we can indulge in moments of longing. Count them and enjoy life's gifts, even when they reside in the past.

Beautifully written!

I'm sorry you feel so alone my friend. I'll bet you are loved more than you know.

A beauty my friend . . . longing and the whole meaning of the word memories, reflections we have of days past that brought us to today.

I too, have many - and like you, some good - others...hmmm, but love them all.

Memories keep us alive when life becomes too cold. Love can not be bought or sold or bribed. It is there or it's no. SO memories hold fast. Good post. Jo

Very moving thoughts, you do have a philosophical way of expression.
Enjoyed, my friend.
