Memories of Love and Spring

Glowering cloud legions
march in double cadence
across the dark-foreboding,
angry sky of Autumn passing
to the frantic piping of
a viscous wintry wind.
The lonely mind conjures
fleeting images of a long,
long river forever rolling
past the ruined fortress
of our finest dreams to
some ever-distant wide,
   wild sea
and  a thousand of life’s
unchosen roads already
walked … to nowhere.
Here inside there is no
inner sanctum deep enough
in which to hide when the
relentless dark spirit-wolves of
November come a calling; and
yet, somehow, there are still
the perennial warm hopes and
memories of Love and Spring.

Ahhh . . . Save those warm thoughts for December, January and February, Bruce, they will be needed.

If they give you ruled paper write sideways.

It was already and ambient air temp. of 27 degrees F. here a couple of mornings with an even nastier "wind chill" factor temp.

You write some beautiful poetry about the natural world, SHDP, but I feel you are lost to the humans who inhabit it. Perhaps they don't belong there? I can understand that.
