         Fleeting Beauty

Moonlight on the water
and the water is the sky.
Silver moonbeams dancing
everywhere
with the last Autumn leaves
spin-drifting arabesques in a
   chill November breeze.
All seems crisp and brittle now
on the sharp-edge cusp of Winter.
From somewhere, the lonesome
sound of distant evening bells
echoes through these ancient
'endless' hills and forest paths to
   nowhere.
Our lives are the windblown flakes
of snow ... fleeting beauty in the
   endless void.

As always, thanks so much to each of you!!

[I hope that I generally give a 'voice' to Nature
and 'environmental stewardship' ... aside from
any 'philosophic point' that might be riding on
the cascading natural imagery]

That just about says it all, Bruce. Subtle, deep poetry.

If they give you ruled paper write sideways.

Your image of the moon on the water is stunning. The rest of the poem is magic- it captures the "essence".

On the ocean's great canvas
the water colors are just that
beautiful for the moment though
as in your poem of grand tribute to all
