Thinking back on two failed marriages . . .

no one could tell us
we did what we wanted to
throwing away
love as easily as washing our hands
of it
we found that the heavy preponderance
of ourselves coupling
we hailed skin and emissions
as something not possible to stop
eh . . .
we had our cake
we licked the frosting
drank the wine
ate the cake
it soured on us
what was left of two lives
no deposit
no return
we spent it all
we promised nothing
that is what we now possess
nothing
there is no where we can go
no reason to stay
where we are at
