okay, I've given up on who I used to be
my past isn't me anymore
belongs to that person I used to be
not me now
it all seems like a ephemeral dream
that I have found myself visiting
and writing about
far too long
the present is all I have
and all I want
with an occasional peek into tomorrow
all those broken hearts and vows
I am grateful I was able
through poetry
to exorcise my demons
but now . . .
now that they are gone
there is nothing to remember anymore

wow ... glad to hear that someone was able to
"exorcise their demons through poetry" ... hasn't
worked for me [particularly the 'great darkness' of
the Nam era].  In my case being so 'compelled to
write' may itself be a 'demon?!'

Yes, no longer of the past.    So strange it is that the past, so deeply rooted and anchored can slip away and we see ourselves becoming  a different person.

Much enjoyed,

I'll remember them, Lori, but just won't write of them anymore.

Oh I absolutely know that cathartic and therapeutic are working hand in hand with me, Emma. Thank you.

A turning of the page... and YOU get to write this next one.     Beautiful concept.

It takes a strong person to let the past go and not just accept what is, but want it. Congratulations... on both achieving that... and an excellent write about it!

suthern, I believe I have waxed overly so about my morbid and dark past. There comes a time when you just must go on, either that are become someone who is tethered to the dark and the darkness alone. I'm an old guy these days, but I look forward to what comes next, whatever in hell that may be. Thank you so much for making my day three different times today. That has never happened I don't think.
