if it ain't free
he'll steal it
making it free anyway
free
this land of the free
home of the freeloaders
freedom has come to mean
whot-ya-got-for-me
spreading his hands outward
fill 'er up, bub
none 'o that hand-me-down crap either
designer all the way
free

this is a good man
this man obsessed with what he can get
free
its the system
broken down to the point
politicians have become constituent mistresses
passing out pork
to little fat piggy's
bellying up to the teat
rooting to find that perfect, swollen one with milk
greed is not only a rich man's vice
suckling the teat dry
no thought of tomorrow

promise voters prime rib
they expect it
hands out
and then some
each election the ante is upped
don't think that's what the founders
envisioned
we have gone quite insane
whatever happened to JFK's entreaty
"don't ask what your country
can do for you
ask what YOU
can do for your country."

I never thought I would see this country come to this but this is so true.

Me either Ida. What gets me is how the politicians and the great unwashed (population) just accept what is thrown in their faces.

There are so many pitfalls in politics...it's true...but hasn't it always been like this?...the priviledged few leading the sheep ...to their sleep and their slaughter...

What is the alternative....?  civil war? chaos? I don't know...there are no real answers...but poetry is always a good platform to vent...and explore ...and be true to our nature.

It is always a trip reading you, Jerry!

Well written, thoughtful and very truthful piece my friend, and yeah, as Belle said, it's always been like this - to a degree, but not as solidly and purposely in Our Country as others - until now.  Civil War?  Maybe not - war against government, absolutely!  Get the entrenched lifers out of office; get the power back in the hands of the people as the constitution wanted it, and, here's a thought, put the govenment - all forms of it under the same dictates it reguires of the people - like Obama care, and taxes and salary's, and especially - LAWS!

Uh-oh, my soap box just broke, and wouldn't you know, it was stamped "Approved by Congress!"

I honestly believe civil war isn't out of the question, Baby Girl. I hope not but it could happen. Thank you for being here today.

Buddy, it will take YEARS to undo what this administration has done to America. The old guard who is so entrenched in Congress won't have the heart to do what it takes, so we have to weed them out and that takes time. Oh, by the way, our president and first lady (capitalization left out on purpose), will be on the leading edge of fermenting civil unrest. I still stand by what I have said for the longest time, this president will somehow figure out a way to remain president. If he has to go to war (and we can't change presidents in the middle of a very bad war) that is what he will do.

Oh Jerry, it'll all be ok once we realize we owe it to them, won't it?
Seriously, I share your frustration, watching a younger class of would-be electricians failing a trade they think is owed to them but aren't the slightest bit inclined to work for.  Between them, the elite super rich and the now, better than first class poor, it's getting pretty tough for the working man to keep food on all the different tables... guess who's not getting any dessert?

Create a bad war so he can stay in office???
c'mon now, really??  I'm glad I don't live in your state (of mind). He is still just a man... not a black devil incarnate...you give him credit for having so much power when congress has for the most part left him dead in the water (statistically compared to other Presidents)I think you are fearing more than facts.

Frustration! Frustration! I'm frustrated. I said what I had to say, and now I have calmer feelings.

Lori said it for me...your state of mind is scary.
Then again our first amendment is powerful and makes me proud to be an American.

Lori, You said, "He is still just a man... not a black devil incarnate."

You said, "I think you are fearing more than facts."

Why don't you just come out and say you think I am a racist. You asked me that question quite awhile ago, I explained to you then that I am not a racist. I say again today, I am not a racist. I'm sorry this has turned into what it is. I am sorry that if the man is criticized by someone they are racists. I'm not one, Lori.
