Tranquillity lost The water wheel turned relentless to its toil Mill girls scurried like mice ‘neath overseers gaze Summer sun glared down to parch the meadow soil Butterfly wings fluttered translucent in the haze The diesel engines turned fuming from the oil Young girls twitter, but dumb, at i-phones they just gaze High rise reflects the sun makes the pavement boil Neon lights just flashing their message through the haze Barefoot girls on clover dance the piper’s tune Milk maid pale and freckled she catches farm lad’s eye Holding hands in cornfields shadows ‘neath the moon Carried over threshold on straw mattress they will lie High heeled girls on catwalks flaunt their bodies toned Model pale and fleshless she catches A-list eyes Lonely in the subway no-one ever phoned Enters her apartment so silent are her sighs |

The life of so many, female and male, with no shining light to rescue them from the drabness of their lives. Quite well done . . . ~*~ Tell the truth, but tell it slant.--Emily Dickimsom ~*~ |

Your last line really got to me... for I know those sighs... and even now, think that home would just be walls if I couldn't anticipate a welcome at the door and purrs to soothe and calm me. You paint vivid pictures with your words and make me feel... that's poetry I like! |
