No Man...

No man's an island, this much I confess,
Knowing, even so, how it must be.
Slowly shrinking unto a nothingness,
Eroding throughout eternity.

My love, my ocean, august and erect
I have stood watch for you over time.
But Time, itself, having fallen suspect
With a flattened tone off the chime,

Awards no semblence of stature once held,
But instead withers away resolve.
Till the deepest of fears and the last of hopes meld,
And I daily watch myself dissolve.

The winds, once gentle, now all seem to chill.
In sunlight, there's still haze on the sky.
This duty I've striven so long to fulfill,
A whisper on the waves washing by.

Still I will not question as refashioned maps
Tomorrow leave me clearly undrawn.
As, one by one the memories, too, will lapse
To the splendor of a vacant dawn.

This grabbed my attention at the git-go
quote:
Slowly shrinking unto a nothingness,
Eroding throughout eternity.

I have watched Time give up the ghost and is nothing more than a river of forgotten dreams, they too are merely waiting and watching for those memories will wither and die.

Now this line was the one that did it for me

"As, one by one the memories, too, will lapse
To the splendor of a vacant dawn."

splendor of a vacant dawn is just killer!

Your poem brings some closure..as far as closure goes.
The sorrow and emptiness is draining.  I hope that doesn't sound cruel...
i think it is freeing to let go...i wish that for you.

As always your poetry is deeply felt.
