(Hi everyone! Miss y'all!

This modern country song I wrote is my attempt to pen a "Woman in Chains" for this generation.)

Transiting Venus
By: Noah Hibiscus Eaton
7/6/14
.
.
.
...two years ago on a hot June night...
.
.
...I saw Venus glide,
across the face of the sun...
.
.
...I learned this kind of sight,
only comes once in a lifetime...
.
.
...and a sign that a great shift has begun...
.
.
...where the feminine at last can guide the way,
in all we create and perpetuate...

...and favor the chalice over the blade...
.
.
.
.
.
...so upward I gaze,
staring off into space...

...awaiting that fateful day,
when our light bodies radiate...
.
.
...it's under my skin,
but out of my hands,
burning with flames,
I long to fan,
as I'm staring off into space...

...and hope I'll live to see history begin...
.
.
.
.
.
...you're told that,
still tongues make wise heads...

...but they'll be armed to the teeth,
when you don't cross your legs...

...you're told you're asking for it,
when you slip on that black dress...

...but when you are,
your medical records are leaked to the press...
.
.
.
...it still seems she's ostracized,
it's all sex, lies and craft supplies...

...and coat hangers still stand the tests of time...
.
.
.
.
.
...and upward I gaze,
staring off into space...

...awaiting that fateful day,
when our light bodies radiate...
.
.
...it's under my skin,
but out of my hands,
burning with flames,
I long to fan,
as I'm staring off into space...

...and hope I'll live to see history begin...
.
.
.
.
.
Now when I cry,
it's not because I'm afraid...

...that something will happen,
and slam the door in my face...
.
.
.
...it's because I'm afraid,
something so beautiful,
may not take place...
.
.
.
.
.
...unless I stop,
staring off into space...

...awaiting that fateful day,
when our light bodies radiate...
.
.
...it's under my skin,
but I've still got two hands,
burning with flames,
I want to fan,
so I take one last stare into space...
.
.
.
...living to see history begin...

Thanks sooooooooooo much!

That lyric is a not-too-subtle reference to last week's Supreme Court ruling with regards to the case Burwell v. Hobby Lobby. It is my sincere belief that this particular ruling has set us up on a worrisome slippery slope that will further aggrandize corporate personhood and where women and sexual minorities will most be at a disadvantage! =(

Feminist nonsense. When are women told to hold their tongues in this western world? Thank someone that you don't live in Saudi Arabia or Iran. let women wear their black dresses, they look great whatever size they are!

Redstart: Except I'm not a feminist. I'm actually a staunch critic of the term just as I am the "Men's Rights Movement". Many often confuse sex and gender and if, say, feminism was more true to its etymology and argued the archetypal feminine has been largely scarce across the developed world and we are in dire need of a renewed renaissance and appreciation of the feminine, then I certainly would consider myself a feminist in that respect. But that's not how the vast majority define feminism. It has become too balkanized a term and while there are many self-professed feminists I admire and respect, there are also many that don't speak true to me and I consider to be divisive and sometimes mean-spirited.

I like to think of myself, rather, as a self-professed sex-positive egalitarianist. But regardless of labels..........it's plain to see that across much of the developed world, women, sexual/gender minorities and men who choose to rebel against sexual roles and gender norms are disproportionately affected by inequity. Reproductive rights plays a huge part in all of this and, make no mistake: many of these anti-abortion laws, especially the TRAP laws, are designed to regulate the reproductive rights of women. That is absolutely not acceptable to me as an effeminate genderqueer.

As for women across the Arabic Peninsula, but really everyone worldwide...........I believe all conscientious fashion choices and individualities must be celebrated and appreciated. That goes for long dresses and hijabs too. There are all kinds of motivations and intentions for wearing the hijab: much of which is influenced by religious doctrine, but sometimes by personal choice and autonomy as well. And who am I to judge that? I'm not. If a woman (or man, or anyone in-between) in Saudi Arabia or Iran or Kuwait or Lesotho or Suriname and so forth wants to wear a hijab for either religious or personal reasons, by all means go for it. Just as anyone in any country should have the liberty to not wear a veil regardless of cultural pressure if one chooses. Like Coco Chanel said: "The most courageous act is still to think for yourself. Aloud."

Namaste,
