when you marry
it never is quite what you think it is
marriage is not an address
of a house or tent
no . . .
it is a place before that
and make no bones about it
it is a cold place
you wake up Honeymoon morning
standing at the edge
of a jungle
with an arid wasteland
with no maps with which to discover
paths, roads, trails
to navigate toward utopia
no . . .
you are alone
and follow different paths
wrong roads
one day you are surprised
you’ve come this far
but between the two of you
you’ve discovered how to kindle flames
at last . . . progress

The cartoon, how well it portrays how technology is the bigger part of life today than most realize.

But your write depicts the separation of the ages.
Differences between the 40's through the 80's to the here-and-now...

And your closing verse screams: No matter how much the change - it all seems to remain the same.

Nice write Jerry!!
Enjoyed.

Yeah Jerry, I think JL really nailed it as far as responses go... I love your metaphor because you are right about learning to kindle the flame is progress...Success is in tending that fire so it doesn't go out, but if it should, staying with it and rekindling. Another good one to wake up to my friend.

Cute!, my friend.  Certainly happy that's not how mine went/has gone.  Sure wouldn't have lasted the 40 years it has.

I'd have left it/her in the dust!

enjoyed . . . j.

Good morning Jimmy, I hear you talking. Unfortunately, similar things happened to me, or happened because of me.

I was just imagining the look on the faces of the bride and groom, and the guests, if this were read out at a wedding. It's pessemistic, but validly so, as 60% of marriages end in divorce, and the rest need saint-like understanding to get to the flame-kindling stage. You always tell it like it is, Jerry.

Thanks Redstart. The generation that took their marriage vows seriously has been lost forever for the most part.
