its been a long time
since I could walk on water
and
climb sheer cliffs
without a rope
yeah, those days are gone
there is only one more day left
today
there may be tomorrow
there may not be, but today is now
I reminisce a lot in my poetry
reminiscing is total b.s.
it only serves to
tell you what you no longer have

is anything I’m saying
making sense
or is it like that stream
of sunlight
running across the floor
an illusion
much like this little poem has been
still . . .
that stream of sunlight is
NOW
heading into tomorrow
just like I intend to do

Well, Jerry, they do say that intention is the beginning of all things so ... enjoy your tomorrow and those to come.  Somehow or other it seems that some things in the "now" only make sense "tomorrow" although, of course, that tomorrow may take years to come around.

Hah! Helen, just when I had simplified it all in my thoughts, you had to come along and scramble it all up again. Heh.Heh Thanks for stopping by.

Jerry
I read this yesterday morning and my response was so apathetic I didn't even bother writing it down. What a difference a day makes! Today your poem felt like Carpe Diem.

I totally agree with the reminiscing part... even if I can't stop myself from doing it.  Even so, for me, it is the reminiscing that gives purpose to my goals and propels me onward toward tomorrow.  If I only got one more day ahead of me, that's one more day to live, not be defined by a past that's dead.

Yes Jerry, every thing you said makes sense. We all tend to fall back in time to where we were once more comfortable or even at times uncomfortable, because at least we knew that person  and those times. Even knowing the bad times cannot be changed we do tend to wander down those old lanes, maybe thinking we can change that time with our new growth and knowledge. Only to learn it is too late no and we should just close those doors. Sincerely, jo

You got the right take on it, Jo, but as you are aware, shutting those old doors completely is sometimes a very, very difficult thing to do. Thank you a lot for stopping by.

I see a little of both.
Great write Jerry!!
Got me thinking, for sure...

Remenicing is a choice. Why wander back to darkness when the glass of beer at arms length, if held only for a short time, is light. Hold it for an hour and it it too heavy.
Just like our thoughts: if we hold them too long they get heavy.

Yep. It is easy to give advice. I appreciate it, but sometimes, it is just too easy.
