Morning comes through the mist
of waking realisation
to devour the spirit.
Like a wolf to the injured fawn;
like the dawn executioner unyieldingly
seeking the fruits of his trade.

That ephemeral, yet peaceful,
breath of evening comfort,
stifled in a fist of fear,
seeks refuge in a vaccuum
of distorted thinking.
And the heart won't cease
its irregular, racing routine.

Hours will ease the threat;
soft words will soothe the senses;
safe arms will calm the pulse.
Belief, with deep-found courage,
will again ride its warhorse
to the relentless ranks of anxiety.

Victory is light;
fulfilment of the cause:
'I wish I could just feel normal.'
Defeat is so utterly dark
that its mere contemplation
must never be an option.

I've never suffered from anxiety, panic attacks, depression or any form of nervous illness. I have, however, close family members who do, and it is a terrible place to be.
Thanks to everyone who has taken the time to read and comment on my posts. It is much appreciated. Long may this forum continue, it's a great place for inspiration.

Unfortunately, I have panic attacks, and it is a horrible place to be. Even though I understand what is happening I still firmly believe I've breathed my last breath. Again, I say, it is a horrible feeling.

Took me on a ride I am all too familiar with.  Glad to know you don't suffer the same, but feel equally empathetic toward  your family members that do.  Reaching out to undertand them can make a world of difference.  Too often people just think the suffering of a depressed person is a product of his own making, and own controlling.  I assure you nothing could be further from the truth in most cases.

That dreaded feeling like a tourniquet twisting tighter and tighter so I hear
I have worked with patients who describe this anxiety as such
well written

Bless your heart. I'm glad I picked this poem first to read as I am fighting my way back once again. You being an understanding family member makes you a priceless comfort. Thank you so much for sharing this.
