Now passes on a year that pleased the sun
Bright memories, now cobwebbed, lose their hue
Such fibrant reds and yellows on the run
Are static now, replaced with sorrow's blue
The passioned fires of summer smoulder now
Their smoke like misted lens conceals your eyes
No relight will tomorrow's rains allow
Love's kindling lies in dreary dank demise
The reasons? They're not worth a second glance
Futility is king when looking back
There sadly was no time for one more dance
We simply wandered too far from the track
So let the gavel fall on auctioned dreams
They have to go, there's no reserve it seems

It happens. Sometimes I wonder if love doesn't hurt more than it makes us happy.

This is a sorrowful tale of love lost...however, beautifully penned.

fine writing in spite of the somewhat constricting effect of having to meet the demands of rhyme.
