sets alone in a room
breath comes raggedly
door is cracked a tiny bit
been that way for three days
three days
all he can remember
not a sound has been heard
from behind
that sliver of a crack in the door
sunlight shines through
when the room goes dark
the last man left
waits for the sliver of light to reappear
another third day will be upon him
there are no days
beyond the third day
he hardly moves
its as though he is in suspension
a time warp
locked inside his three days of time
measured by thirty-six hours
three days
it's as though
he is on borrowed time
inside a borrowed world
with unmoving, borrowed eyes
with which to sorrow it
don’t think he wants to know
how the story ends
it's as if he understands
the world is a lie
and three days of lies
is all he can withstand
he’s like an orphan waiting for a bus
with no place to go

Thank you, Beverly. Since I have written this poem yesterday I have been thinking about it a lot. You brought up some things I have thought about, especially "he has three days, where are those 3 days." I have almost decided to take this poem and expand it into a novel. I think I have enough of an idea where the story would go for me to make it work. Thanks again for helping me stir my creative juices.

Thank you, Ida, I believe it could just be a very interesting one also. My thoughts are rushing almost too fast for me to get them into note form. I had already had the idea for a story, but after writing this poem, I got to thinking it would fit right in with the story, and after editing it into novel formation it will be Chapter One's kickoff to the story itself.
