I sit in The Hovel’s gray gloom
days like this
there is no light
I listlessly pick and peck
on the keyboard
nothing works for me
winter’s chill
persists in its decay
in this room
everything is dark
eh . . . sad
not even a sliver of the moon’s
bright light
my thoughts are dark
depressing and wasteful
the ancient pistol
loaded and cocked
resting beside me
on the table
it has come the time
to do what I’ve promised I would do
so many times
o’er these many years
I’ve talked it over with her
she understands
she said
I asked her
once
if she would want me to warn her
when the time came
she said she did
so here I sit
in front of the computer
trying to send her an email
don’t trust myself to call her
it is difficult
I mean how do you
tell her
that the time has come
for me to escape the pain
I can see her face
such a beautiful face
and again
I start the email
finally
I type Sha
her face comes to me again
a lone tear
trickles down her cheek
then she gives
me a wonderful smile
and . . .
quick as a wink the Hovel
lights up like a
cathedral with a thousand candles
I smile back at her
shut off the computer
uncock the pistol
and take out the rounds
I have some living left to do

without pain, no poetry writes, no art paints
I feel your pain as well as the beacon of light SHA, who you hold dear

Thank goodness for the happy ending Jerry you really had me worried there for a moment. You are really quite good at that turn around business.  I'm so glad you have Sha and Zoe, love looks good on you.

Yes, we all have more living to do.  May not be the kind of living we really want but still it is living.  So glad you came to that conclusion.

Actually I am enjoying my life these days, Helen. Thank you so much for stopping by today.
