wrote a poem
about my legacy
posted it here
this is what I wrote . . .

my legacy
ahhh . . . how will it sound
the good deeds
I have performed
the world knows naught
my poems
short stories, the novels
are succumbing to dust of the ages
looking back
I cringe with the knowledge
that my legacy will be
confined to those two lost decades
so . . . be . . . it

a good friend of mine
didn’t take kindly to the poem
she committed thusly . . .

“Oh baloney sandwiches!
Your legacy
is very much in
black white and blue and
your children!
You have books to leave behind
(small % of the population can say that).
You have, Member Patricius,
more than just a few blue words here
that will outlast you...
And you have children.
I think most
of your lost decades
exists only in your memory,
those people and places
have already turned to dust.
You are still
creating your legacy I believe.”

I answered her in this manner . . .

Thanks for setting me straight.
Truly.
Thank you.
It is amazing what goes on
in a person's mind when he lives alone.
Sometimes thoughts
get overwhelmed and confused.
I have to get out of this funk.
Thank you again, Lori.

writing can be both 'meditation' and self-administered 'therapy,' methinks?!

The Nam era was the penultimate 'darkness' ... ergo, I, for one, now choose
to 'pen' mostly 'light!'

Lori is right. We have no idea of who may remember us for something we did or said over the years. Once in a while I hear from a person who remembered something I had said or something that they remember we did or talked of. One never really knows when what we said or did in a monent of time stayed within someone else's mind. Nothing to worry over but nice when and if some one rememners and tells you so. jo

thank you Lori and Pat. Remember this old lady has many years on you both. She has been there, saw it, heard it and lived it.
The best to you and keep smiling and enjoying the life you have. It is a heck of a lot better than a lot of others. jo

I'm seventy-five. Maybe you're a little older, Jo. Thank you for chiming in again.
