All We May Never Truly Know

    Here… soft white clouds
    wrap hard-stone mountains
by a jade green sea where
    one way footprints fade and
    vanish at the water’s edge
    to tease the melancholy mind
    on this somber day when
    life’s once bright mirror
    reflects now only the
    spirit’s murky desolation;
    and I can no longer
    taste the sunlight.
    Who has walked
    this way before?
    be it prophet, poet,
    a once great king, or
       vagabond …
    perhaps a lovely lady
    with unquenchable
    sadness in her eyes
    from a brim-full heart
    of unrequited love.
    One thinks of all the
    things we may never
    truly 'know' and cannot
       change.
