Here,
when in early Spring
with apple green of life recalled
and budding fresh in trees,
I'm gathering herbs and sacred woods
for drawing down a living fire,
when soon the moon will be too bright for sleeping
I'm no longer fingering threads of time,
weaving spells of measure
bringing fevered legs that heat too easily
bearing throbbing charms to spread before my fire,
I find instead my self lingering
in peace my gardens' pathways bring
despite shadowed remembering,
for me,
outside this fortress' door
any warmth of sunshine's sting is fatal over time.

I am a nighttime creature blest
with having lived life at its best
gifted with memories of all the lessons,
tests and trials,
a bequest inherited for my self
from almost countless lives I've lived before.

When I was young
I thought this knowing should be shared,
but with age,
finding no one really cared
beyond sharp gasp and sigh
the moment brings when soaring high the maiden sings
grasping yet to breathe in air of freedom waiting there
outside each garden door,
I learned it's best to hide stark meanings in the lines,
words clinging to themselves
like straw caught in tines of idle fork
propped by fence post aging in dark corner over there.

Here's to that living fire you have built even though the threads of time and shadowed remembering touches you. You, a nocturnal creature understanding that what we have to say towards the end nobody much cares to hear. I guess that is how it should be, to let them find out their own truths themselves. And you hide your meanings inside your words and if they perchance find it they might think they thought of it themselves. I thoroughly enjoyed this one Icebox.

P.S. I missed what was in the title the first time. Now that I am aware, the poem takes on a meaning slightly different that I'd once thought. Not enough to make me change my original thoughts, but enough that I wanted to tell you.

Icebox,
I very much enjoy your mystic ponderings.
This is especially good

A most touching write, with wonderful poetic renderings of deep thoughts.

I felt goosebumps reading ...

quote:
I find instead my self lingering
in peace my gardens' pathways bring

quote:
beyond sharp gasp and sigh
the moment brings when soaring high the maiden sings
grasping yet to breathe in air of freedom waiting there
outside each garden door

This morning I put a flower into my hair and this gesture made me instantly think of beloved Karen/Serenity as she once encouraged me to not be shy about flowers in my hair ... and now your poem brought yet again back the thought of Karen, as if she shared within my heart the beauty of your poem.

Outstanding work.

Your thoughts are a warm caress that touch deeply upon my heart and soul.  The wisdom that comes with age is evident in your poetic ponderings. Life is a journey that's for sure..to a peaceful place of mind if you will..and if we are lucky enough to reflect on the long and winding roads we traveled over the years with a clear mind and love in our hearts...then i have lived!  After all the bumps in the road that tripped me up..
I wouldn't be the same without the scars... I feel humbled and grateful to have come this far...and your poem has given me great perspective.

You are a fine poet and all that is wise and wonderful.
