I have come to a spot
where I can put my feet up
rest from my travels
it has taken me my whole life
to get to this point
eh, existence is what you pay
into your existence
me . . .
I have paid my dues
have undergone heartache
even with the ones who
I was intimate with
and times when I was by myself
a wearer of many hats
always meandering through life
carrying a ravenous nucleus
one of those guys
who can pretty much say
been there, done that
at times I was intoxicated
with pleasure
other moments I cowered
in dark alleys of complete despair
I am part and parcel
of the delightful and the dreadful
always on the move
afraid to linger
to rust away and die
life piled on top of me
again and again and . . .
until here I am
not much left of the person I was remains
still live by the
ticking of the clock
awaiting the hour when the ticking
shall cease
in that never-ending silence
outside the far perimeters of human reflection

Well JP I think this is one of your best!!
Your introspection is honest and sincere.
I see myself and yes, the sting of regrets
I wish I didn't have...but now that I no longer have
my whole life in front of me, I take an enormous amount of comfort in the wisdom I have gained. After all these years....
Hats off to you good poet.

"I am part and parcel

Thank you so much, Lori, I too feel very good at the "wisdom I have gained," as I continue toward the void.

"in that never-ending silence

Bruce commented on my first favorite line. And this last line is a doozey! You always save the best for last.

tick tick tick

I hear you, mabe the more ticks, the more
wisdom and self acceptance, as was reflected in your valuable poem

Oh, there is no doubt that as I continue to age I am having more "wisdom and self acceptance" than at any time in my life, Emma. Thank you so much for your kind comments.
