it’s over
I am gone
death; the last sham
within pleasant delusions
some carry to the grave
not I friend
not I
I am just gone
trainees at some Louisiana
research department
will carry on their said research
on my dead flesh
and bones
what’s left will be burnt
to ashes
my passing will not
be subjected to much wailing
and tearful sobbing
still . . .
a few might shake their heads
thinking thoughts
of their knowledge of me
some of those thoughts
might be sweet
some more toward vindictiveness
at any rate
sighs, embittered
I am just gone
to the authority which surreptitiously
directs our universal downfall
so it is to the immeasurable
narcissism
of all of our sum

Strong message here my friend. I think you come through loud and clear. You put me in mind of my own epitaph that to paraphrase says-"Carve my butt in stone"....kiss my a**
LOL. But your words have much more dignity than mine and much deeper thought.

Good morning, Lori. I like your epitaph. Strong and not so many descriptive words, just went for the jugular.

Ah, the delusions of life we so readily seek all eventually lead us here, don't they?  Some people speak of living on, in others' memories or in deeds unforgotten.  That may just be the greatest delusion of them all.

Lots of contemplation going on here this morning.  Glad I didn't have to work today.

No doubt about it, "the greatest delusion of them all." You notice that never came up in my epitaph. Appreciate you reading and commenting Michael.

Sorry to disappoint you, Emma. Just one of those days when I wrote the poem I guess.
