you want a beer? she asked
she was a good-looking older woman
who lived on the same floor as I did
I’d been eying her
but too timid to speak
besides she was married
she showed up at my door
wanting to know
if I could stop her commode from running
all the time
yeah, I could do that
so there we were
in her apartment
I never was able to answer her question
about the beer
her breasts were large
too large for her thin frame
I was thinking
she was tanned so beautifully
I found that incredibly sexy
I tried to apologize the first time
you young guys, she told me
you’re always in a hurry.
she held me there
kept me occupied until
I came back to life
then she showed me things I’d
never dreamed of
it was like being in the hands
of an accomplished mechanic
a technician
who knew how to coax
every last ounce of torque from an engine
I was a student
dropping my inhibitions
I spent the afternoon with her
she left no doubt who was driving
and who was the passenger
when it was over
when she’d completely
drained every ounce of energy from me
she struck a pose propped up
on her pillows
by now
as fantastic as it had been
I really wanted out of there
finally beginning to think about her husband
coming home
she said you can fix the toilet another time
“okay,” I said
give me a couple of days to recover
“alright,” I said
I’ll call you
I left
my head still reeling
about what I’d just been through
and yes
she did call me back
many times
New York
I do have memories
have I told you about the lady cop?
