Through the hot, humid night air
the funeral dirge plays
a slightly disturbing descant
to her laugh
...its just life she mutters

I cant sleep she whisper
to me
sing me a lullaby
and across the miles I tell her
you are safe, sleep gently.

You are all things bright
you are talented, smart...
...beautiful...even in the
darkest depths that we shared

But she doesn't believe

She is my mirror
reflecting me back to me
never seeing the her I see

Its late...lets write
lets tease
lets play
together here the only way
we can be

When I was afraid...YOU
laughed my fears away
When I cried...YOU
held me across the miles
When I triumphed...YOU
applauded me
Who will do that now?
Who will show me the way?

I cant wrap my head around the
truth
You are gone
and we will never again
torment the moon with our poetry
we will never again grin because
"hell ya he is HOT!'
we will never again pick apart
a muse that leaves us struggling

I cannot do justice to the impact
you had on my life
I can only say...
Sleep gently sweet friend...sleep gently

For Karen

Beautiful is the first word that comes to mind. It is a word used much too much these days, but this poem is beautiful. To know someone so intimately is to know yourself. I'm sorry she has left you, but it wouldn't surprise me if she has a front row seat wherever she is and is watching you, and yes, even protecting you.

This is so very special.  What a wonderful tribute to your relationship. What a lovely way to outline the space she left behind.
I couldn't agree more with Jerry, I ditto that!

I miss her too, Paula.  She never understood just how precious and beautiful she was, or how much she touched the rest of us.  Her memory will always be cherished.

I was away form PiP for so long...away from her...not so much by choice as by life. This doesn't even come close to whats in my heart

Paula, understanding how you miss her and feel your tribute is not enough, but believe me she knows as we all do. Rest peacefully knowing this.Jo Perry
