ahhh . . .
nearby is the new plowed ground
where a garden will grow
I sit outside
my jug of cheap California burgundy
and Zoe, my constant companion
drinking with her and the moon
letting Zoe lick the wine
from my finger
and I lift my glass
to the magnificent moon
wish the moon
could partake with Zoe and I
the moon is bright
tonight and my shadow is long
it is a mellow spring night
I am happy
Zoe is always happy to be outside
except in the summertime
she can’t take the heat
neither me
so we’re enjoying tonight
I stand
careful now
a bit lightheaded
my shadow toasts me back
as I raise my glass to it
been out here awhile
drank my fill
hope I can read the notes I made
to assemble them into a poem
this has been a fine night
Zoe, the moon and my shadow
if we don’t meet again
hopefully one day we will get back together
deep in the Milky Way

You always make it feel as if you are chatting with us from the porch, or on a walk etc. Enjoyed

sultry and easy, just soft on the page, and real nice, the addition of Zoe gives it that warm personal touch

So appreciate your comments on this poem, Emma. Yes, Zoe is mentioned in my poetry every so often.
