Ruby

It happened on
the fourth of July,
I was the other guy,
later I listened more closely
to the words of the song
and knew I'd done wrong
but at that time
I didn't follow the lines,
and I didn't know of the sadness
that lived within the words of the rhyme.
"It wasn't me that started
that ole crazy Asian war
but I was more than proud
to go and do my patriotic chore
and if I could move I'd get my gun
and put her in the ground,
Ruby, don't take your love to town."
You see, to me I was
happy she was mine,
to me Ruby was just another
sexy woman looking to have
a good time.
