We fall (A duet with hunnie_girl)

Once the world was a place of peace
Once the world was just beauty and truth
Now we stand before the precipice, the void
Before us chaos, anarchy our hope destroyed

So many changes, its hard to believe
Many suffer the consequences
Alarm on the faces all living with fear
Screams the question "How did we get here?"

The skies burn with purple flame
Men - Women run and tremble
Watch the world collapse around them
A thousand screams, the blood unstemmed.

Nothing to be done but watch in disgust
It was us, It was us who asked for this
How can we live in a world so unjust
In the end, no where to turn, no one to trust

It was we who brought the Angels wrath
Those Silver men and their terrible machines
We crossed every line took every chance
Made the inferno descend and the fires dance.

Once again we are forced to action
Now unsure of what can be done
Wishing back to pasts false securities
Searching hard for those righteous clarities

Yet still we raise ourselves, but falteringly
Jarred into action by a world of destruction
So we raise our hand and cast the dice
Can we stem our fall a swansong of Fire and Ice

Can we bring it together again?
Repair that centuries in the destruction?
Lying in wait for the truth to descend
A new beginning or the bitter end

We turn to face our last sunset
Our final desperate third act
O'er land air and sea we take travel
And with us the future past unravels

We Sit

When the world came to an end. We sat in a circle each looking out to what remains. We each saw ourselves mirrored in the destruction, the burning world around us. Our reflections bade us pause in our thoughts. Awareness soaked into us in the light of the fires around. We each of us lost in the moment.

So we have come to this. Just the very few staring back to where we had been, who we had been. I myself looked with now unblinkered eyes to what was inside. My devils danced in those fires. All the bad thoughts, those I cheated, those I hurt. I stare and I cry for who I was. Most of all though I see all the many choices I didn't make. The girl I never kissed, the hand I never held. My heart broken again and again by words unspoken. My eyes sought, without my volition, my every hurt given or received. Every broken promise from a dead world.

I realised, as I viewed the worst of who I had been, that I did not cry. I could not cry for the sins of the man I had been as much as they hurt. I could not cry because the vacuum I had come to inhabit would not allow the hurts to touch. Instead they drift around me like snowflakes in the wind. They flow around me always moving but never falling. Never feeling their cold kiss on my skin.

So we sit in our circle each of us in our own world. Our pasts holding us in this place. We cannot escape its pull. Its painful magnetism appeals to the masochist deep in me. I'm rooted here hooked to the pain of a lost world. How long I have sat here I am unaware. It may be a day, it may be eternity. All I know is I can never leave, We can never leave. this is our world now. The memories are not what we were but what we are. Memories, just memories.

We Fall Again

Watch the world spin away
We are what remains
We were the last few it seems
Just a final congregation
Burning up purples and greens
In a thinning atmosphere
The genome unravels
The world is as it was
We, the traces that remain
Slowly breaking down
We spiral towards the light
Our base selves cast out
Who we are at the core of us
Returns once more to our mother
The Fire that birthed
The Chaos that bled
Our elements once cast
Flowing back on vacuums currents
We become no longer 'we'
Merely a ghost breeze
Not real a background
To the background and we fall
To completion
And we return
To the end.
To the beginning.

For the sake of my own pettiness there is also a fourth sister piece to this trilogy. Points to anyone who can guess which poem it is.

powerful writing indeed laced with many essential questions.  Millions of species over the 4 billion yrs. of 'life on Earth' have gone to extinction; however, we have the tragically unique distinction of being fully capable of extinguishing our own species and taking most of the biosphere with us. Some day there may be only plants, bugs, and germs left (oh ... and maybe a few lawyers and 'Romance writers' 'cause they're likely quite hard to get rid of also!)
