finally spring has sprung
so goes the saying
still, it is true it seems
spring is such a mugwump when
it comes to its defining
it steadfastly refuses to side with either
the coming summer
our last winter
it retains both dispositions
that is its motivation for being
the disintegration of those
long wintry months
and it eases us into idyllic
summer days
we rejoice the coming of spring
even as we shudder
at the thought of what’s ahead
hundred degrees temperatures
when spring gives way
to tremendously hot
days ahead
