Perhaps 'poets' deceive even
    themselves ...
that 'Love' is all about the
magnificent exhilaration of
new and special feelings
for someone when, instead,
it may ultimately be more about
comparatively how much each
person is willing to risk and give
of themselves? ...

a Summer breeze
clear moonlight
and a gentle heart___
all are one

a Summer day___
infinite clouds
hang in the
blue-vault sky

late Spring___
the stream
a fluid carpet
of blossoms

tremulous stars____
a clear moon
rides the high
March wind

following this
lonely Tao___
beneath an
orphan moon

Through the azure
    emptiness___
a few snowflakes
dance a fickle breeze

of the cherry blossom___
only one petal still
hangs in the wind

A lone crow
roams a glowering
sky over dead ground___
is it Spring or
is it Winter?

many choices_____
which path finds
roots of the clouds?

writing poetry
   alone____
what is ‘life’
without true
   love?

among ‘endless’
mountains and
pathless forests___
like a lost friend
inspiration comes

Nature has been the inspiration of writers since writing began, perhaps, Bruce. Your writing puts me in mind of the attitudes of Emmerson and the like. They may not have been romantics but, like you, nature was part and parcel of who they were. Nature calls to their higher self. You radiate awe and reverence for your surroundings. Likewise, your poetry is a deep breath of that rich relationship you have with the natural world. Ah, that we could all be so blessed to share that piece of your heart...the world would indeed be a different place. Your writing uplifts us all.  Bless your heart.

Lori, thank your for your most kind comments pursuant to myself and this 'penning!' ...
I'm glad there are at least a few folks that don't think my lil' "poetic scribbles" are
"nothing but pseudo-sentimental syrup-dipped tripe" as one (alleged) 'professional critic'
put it!

Nature/the 'wilderness' is indeed my primary sensei and 'muse' ... I've been walking
this Zen Tao for rather a long time now following only the true compass of Gaia.

I 'write' with an antique fountain pen and a 1920 typewriter ...
[I'm a charter member of the low-techies 'lead-pencil' society ... ha, ha!] ...
The 'word processor' and cyber-sea are the very last step and only out of
necessity in that (hopefully) in giving a 'voice' to Nature I might make some
small difference in this sad 'ol world. For many, many generations my
'family motto' has always been: Nemo vir est qui mundum non reddat meliorem:
What man is truly a man who does not make the world better?

I write with a pencil and paper.

This opening line is a hook and it got me.

Bruce, you have outdone yourself. This post shows all the love you carry in your heart. Do not let anyone tell you this is "nothing but pseudo-sentimental syrup-dipped tripe" How cruel of him to say this. Your depth and understanding of gaia and mankind in general is not to be compared by anyone with lesser values. Just my opinion. You are one of the best poets here. Please give yourself more credit than you corrently  do. You are a breath of  fresh air.  Jo

Oh, I am quite sure we poets deceive ourselves concerning love, Bruce. Yes, it is the giving and the taking, especially in the lustful start. You then continued your poem stating the obvious with the emphasis on nature and its effect on each and every one of us. This, then, ranks very high in the list of your poems I have read. Congratulations on a kickass poem, man.

actually ... each part of this random 'collection' of snippets was just a separate
(and not intentionally related) 'Zen musing,' it was not one 'poem' with any single
or particular theme.
