Winter___
more lonely than ever
what can one trust?

on a noon of
evening darkness___
the spirit wanes

dark, glowering___
Winter seclusion

Winter showers___
voiceless on the
    dead ground

In this limited life___
only the hope
of Winter passing

despite the signs
of reawakenings___
Winter lingers

day as night___
evening prayers
Winter sorrows

slate-grey sky and  river___
as Winter returns
even the water shivers

cloud draped sky___
wishing for a pot
full of moonlight

barren fields and forests
one old crow
knows the Winter well

what is life
what is love
what is poetry
living on

two cardinals dancing
raise a cheer
   for Spring

Approaching Spring___
each newborn
is a buddha

You touched on the winter from hell very well in this one, Bruce. My favorite lines? . . .
quote:
barren fields and forests
one old crow
knows the Winter well

~*~ There was a sign on the lawn at a drug re-hab center that said 'Keep off the Grass'. ~*~

It's over for us here. I think I'm going to miss it.

Adversity brings out the best in many of us. It's that 'narrow' road I suppose. A bit more difficult when its covered with ice.

What happened zen will happen again.

Touch, but don't look

What I like about winter is the quiet: no buzzing lawn mowsers, or leaf blowers, no motorcycles being tuned up.
Life is the acquisition of experiences as uniquely perceived by us individually. Love cannot be defined but only felt, and expressed in writing called poetry
Well anyway, that's how I see it.
Keep.writing.
Lovely poem,

Though I have not experienced this extreme winter personally I have felt it's chill through the words of others. This is especially telling, Bruce.

so close, but yet so far as you mention here
the lovely poetry does warm the heart as we wait and wait, some of us more so than others, depending on our locale
