You’ll find her sitting there
underneath a willow tree
contemplating more
than ere she thought before

She watches how the river flows
free at ease towards the sea
unmindful of the twists and turns
along its lonesome journey.

But gypsies know that rivers don’t
have wagon wheels that crack and break
when rough terrain the only way
to reach that awesome sea.

They do not pause to re-assess,
they do not stop to rest,
and most of all they do not think
to make mountains out of molehills.

But gypsies know the mountain’s there
looming large and deadly
and she knows she cannot go around
what is meant to be.

She sighs the way all gypsies do;
tomorrow maybe she will move
but content for now she simply waits
for the sun to set.

And she will sleep beneath the stars
protected, yes, until the dawn
when again she looks and shivers some
at that imposing mountain.

Day in/day out you’ll find her there
underneath a willow tree!

I really like this Helen. I have a willow tree and a place to sit under it. I liked the river analogy.

Haven't seen you around in a while, and I agree with Lori, this is a magical poem.

Thanks Lori and Jerry.  I suppose I've been too busy "contemplating" but I'm here reading and perhaps when that mountain is indeed a molehill I'll be more inspired.

I like the mood, one set of reflection and
acceptance for what is at that time period

Introspection and never letting go . . . can drive you crazy my friend: introspection when mourning can be cathartic . . . if allowed to heal.

Well written,

Tales of gypsies often illustrate laziness and thievery. Gypsy tales however, are quite different.

Your poetry warms one to a more contemplative side of life, a life in harmony with its surrounds without looking for ways to ever change it.

Touch, but don't look

Thank you 'j' and 'J'.  Much appreciate you both reading and commenting.  I think it's the mourning that pushes me to write in the hopes of that elusive healing.  But I'll contemplate that.

Says it all!! I think peace of mind is worth it's weight in gold, opposed to
sliding down a mountain that we aren't emotionally or physically fit to climb.

You bring out the best in my thought process and get my wheels turning in the
right direction.  Love ya lady Sunday~

Thank you, Bruce and Bluesy!  I guess when we decide to move in whatever direction the trick is to not count the steps.  Unfortunately I'm a "step person" and want to know what the next step is going to bring before I even take it.  Cray, I would say.

And Bluesy - I still love it when you call me "Lady Sunday".  It takes me back to the old days.  Wish I knew then what I know now.  Be happy dear one!

Wow, love the correlation between a gypsy moving through life and a river... great comparison.  Truly enjoyed this one, Helen.
