soft lights of the fireplace
darkness outside the window
the sputtering light leaks
on shapes and corners of the room
I stand looking down
her head cradled on the pillow
long brown hair made darker by the
flickering blaze
she softly breathes
her full breasts rise and fall
synchronized by the rhythm of her breathing
a soft sound comes
from her pale throat
I kneel beside the bed
lightly kiss that treasured throat
her eyes blink open
yessssss comes from her mouth
I search her lips
we kiss long, even longer
I feel myself slipping into her awakening
listening to the crackle of the fireplace
she puts her arms around me
pulling me into the bed
I go without resistance
we have done this time and time again
as the flame of the fireplace
cascades around us
we greedily take what the other gives
and gives back the same
this love
this forever love
is forever and a day

I guess the expectation of spring could be the catalyst which prompted this poem, Lori. It was heartfelt and about someone I care very much about. I appreciate the kind words.

Very warm and romantic. A mind at ease writes like this.

One ladle serves the soup that feeds the mouths of the many. Is there one in your hand?
