A little child starts
to cry

His mother holds him
wondering why

He’s sad because he lost
a fight

The wind was mean and stole
his kite

For a while he held
the breeze

Until he fell
and skinned his knees

And all the boxes in a row

Filled with families high
and low

Homes of kindred, close
apart

A clan is where you hang
your heart

Sipping on, community

Inequality is free

Unfairness doesn’t have
a fare

Blinking never takes
the stairs

If you want, to see
the past

Watch your parent’s marriage
last

If you want to see, tomorrow

Never let your children
sorrow

If your life would die
for none

You have wasted all
you’ve done

Enduring doesn’t mean
alone

Until the kite you dropped
has flown

We can’t expect our kids
to strive

For the highest
shelf

We can’t expect them all
to rise

Unless we do
ourself

A whole lot of excellent messages within the confines of this offering, Richy. You have capsuled life and living and dying and . . . all that goes with it to make it a wondrous journey if we merely adhere to a few steadfast, clearly defined thoughts, rules if you will, of how to simplify an otherwise very complicated way to live your life as a beacon to others. Great stuff here.

"...unless we do ourselves"

there in lies the heart of the matter. Well done.

You write of life's lessons with a keen eye and the wisdom to finding the strength to set ourselves free. The sky is
truly the limit if we are so brave to fly that high.  You have me reflecting on what was and is and might have been.

and of the dreams I have yet to dream...

....Your poem is a timeless beauty, Richy.
