sitting out back
letting Zoe sniff and pee
got my book
always have a book
pull a chair up
sit and begin to read
after awhile stop and look toward the sky
huge white clouds
moving at a pretty good clip
begin paying more attention to them
I start to make out definitions
first one looks like Pluto
that rat’s dog
okay, so Mickey was a mouse
can make out Pluto’s long snout
even longer drooping ears
if I stretch my imagination
I can see his tail
what a wonderful early summer day
well, it feel like
a wonderful early summer day
temperature gonna climb into the late seventies
not bad for February in the swamp
ah! back to the clouds
I spy a monk’s head
complete with balding crown
oh boy
just to the left there’s this one cloud
shaped just like a heart
that’s cool
I read another page or two of
The Silent Wife
about a marriage disintegrating
literary novel
about a woman who murders
her cheating husband
put it down
rather cloud watch
Zoe has come to sit beside me
hear the sound of a helicopter droning overhead
we get a lot of them
because we’re so near the gulf
I used to ride the damn things a hundred and forty miles
to work on offshore oil rigs
look! just to the right of the chopper
a man’s head
Oh, this one is good
can make out a dark eyebrow
even the eye beneath it
unreal
even the man’s nostrils
can be seen
and lastly the mouth which is opened wide
wish I had a photo of this
my neck starts to hurt
I rub the back of it
feels better
back to the clouds
the man is gone
drat
that spoiled it for me
mark my place in the book
get up and Zoe and I meander
back toward The Hovel

what would we do without the clouds ?
both in life and in the sky ?
enjoyed the cloud art here and those that
got the honorable mention within your poem

I love cloud watching Jerry! last night at supper I saw a perfect fruit bat with huge symetrical ears and wings. Awsome! Enjoyed sitting in the backyard with you and Zoe.

Yep. A lot of images come out of the clouds, Lori.

Ahhh . . . You have a Zoe in your life too. At least on the fringe of your life. Thanks.
