In my mother's day it was twenty two skido to those who didn't have a clue.

she  wore her skirts short and stockings rolled to the knee.

The knees were roughed and that was called the bees knees

She had a flapper cut,one of those short ones, not with Cootie garages place stylishly over the ears.

Her specialty dance was the Charleston and I learned a step or two

But I could never shimmie like my sister Kate.

Those were her years not mine. I grew up  during the war years

Sunday school at Saturday  group meetings we played silly games

The hokey Pokey and changing chairs
Hurrah! at last allowed to square dance  with a do si do
Not until the war was over did I do any dancing

Then came the Limbo if that's called a dance.

Conga Line and the cha cha cha and the Jitter Bug

The twist and  shout,

Not up  with all the latest  now,

But I am sure I could still cut a rug if asked to.

Ah, I imagine you were better at the dancing than you say. At any rate I bet you were fantastic.

It was 'twenty-three skidoo' in my old neighborhood. 'I'll have to kiss you later, I'm eatin' a potater' was in there somewhere too. Graduating from there was hopscotching to 'Sky blue'. I remember a million more, but you've had enough for today.

Touch, but don't look
